A new cemetery association was formed at the Elmwood Baptist church last evening to be known as the Elmwood cemetery association, the purpose being to see that the Elmwood cemetery is kept in proper condition during the coming years. Note has been made of the lack of proper care which the new association will attempt to remedy. It will later be incorporated and between times funds will be solicited to put the cemetery in good shape at the present time. The following officers of the new association were elected at the meeting last evening: President, D. H. Ives; secretary, E. M. Chase; trustees. T. R. Humeston, Lucius Ely, and L. G. Heinritz.
From The Springfield Republican.
[Note: Most, if not all, of this group is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. T.R. Humeston (Deacon Thomas Rand Humeston); Lucius Ely who was born in 1839 died a year after this association was formed; Edward M. Chase, 1868-1938; Dwight Henry Ives is buried in Elmwood 1886 – 1924. I expect L.G. Heinritz is there also, though I need to check my database for details. The Ives family is an old Holyoke family that has connections with the Allen, Knowles and Day lines, D.H. Ives magnificent monument is in the photo, above.]
