Comes From Oklahoma For Christmas Dinner And Then Can’t Eat It

by Laurel | December 26th, 2013

This tiny article made it to The Springfield Republican for pure amusement, but I have added it here because the Holyoke McDowells also are in my genealogy database. John T. McDowell, featured in this article, was the brother of Nina J. McDowell who married David Sloan (another Houston descendant). There  were quite a few McDowells in  greater Holyoke area mostly descended from the nine children born to John J. McDowell and Sabina (McIntyre) McDowell. Any McDowell connections among our readers?

Holyoke, Dec. 26 — John McDowell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, came on from that place, some 2000 miles to eat his Christmas dinner with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McDowell of Franklin Street. The McDowells were to eat their dinner with Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Sheldon of South Hadley Falls. John arrived Monday night. Yesterday morning he was summoned to return on account of the death of an executive in the Empire Oil and Refining Company at Tulsa and he couldn’t stop for the dinner.
