Ward I Pool Demonstrations Display Good Work by Pupils<\/strong><\/p>\n

They’re All Champs — Above are the 18 prize winners, best in their classes, at the annual aquatic meet held Friday afternoon at the Ward 1swimming pool. The champions are: Front row, left to right. Claire Devine, Georgette Bousquet, Bunny Burke, Patricia Bourquet, Joan Vienneau, Ann Barnett, Ann McAndrews and Christine Blanchette; rear, Constance Burke, Irene Gosselin, Carol Claire, Shirley Savard, Dorothy Krajewski, Agnes Corley, Julia Garbacik, Barbara Krajewski, Judy Dietz, and Lou Ann Zwirblia.<\/p><\/div>\n

Holyoke —<\/strong> The technique and grace in ploughing rhythmically through water was demonstrated this afternoon in a three hour exhibit at the indoor Ward 1\u00a0 pool by youngsters before a gallery that thronged the structure<\/p>\n

Tonight at Pool<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual aquatic carnival featured girls who received their training from instructors at the pool. The skill they showed in executing difficult maneuvers was a reflection of the diligence and competency shown by Mrs. Berry Dooley<\/strong> and Miss Patricia O’Donnell<\/strong> who taught the classes.<\/p>\n

Judges were Robert Gaughan<\/strong>, Michael Reddin<\/strong>g, Theresa Gordo<\/strong>n, Jeanne Lecour<\/strong>, Maureen Clark<\/strong>, Patricia Delisle<\/strong> and Janet Mungall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Songs and Fancy Diving<\/strong><\/p>\n

Songs by Bunny Burke<\/strong>, Beverly Walsh<\/strong> and Claire Devine<\/strong> opened the exhibition. Fancy diving followed and winners were Julie Garbacik<\/strong>, Anne Burnett<\/strong> and Dorothy Krajewsk<\/strong>i.<\/p>\n

Then came the races. Winners of the six-year-olds’ dash were Patsy Bourque<\/strong> and Joyce Goulet<\/strong>. Prizes in the seven to nine age group went to Bunny Burk<\/strong>e and Claire Devine<\/strong>; winners of the 10-year-olds’ races were Midge Burke<\/strong> and Kathleen Devine<\/strong>; 11-year-olds, a tie between Carol Clare<\/strong> and Judy Dietz<\/strong>; 14-year olds, Barbara Krajewski<\/strong> and Joanne Zwirbi<\/strong>a.<\/p>\n

During intermission, Joanne Vienneau<\/strong> sang. The events then went of with breast stroke racing. Winners in the midget race were Bunny Burke<\/strong> and Claire Devine<\/strong>; junior race, Julie Garbacik<\/strong> and Judy Walker<\/strong>; senior race, Joanne Zwirbia<\/strong> and Agnes Corley.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Side Stroke Champs<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the side stroke races, winners of the midget dash were Bunny Burke<\/strong> and Georgette Bousquet<\/strong>; junior dash, Ann Burnett<\/strong> and Ann McAndrew<\/strong>. Winners in the back stroke race were Julie Garbacik<\/strong> and Ann McAndrew<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In another intermission Joyce Goulet<\/strong> sang. The five-year olds took part in a skit, “How Do You Do, My Partner<\/em>,” with Anne Lafond<\/strong>, Kathy<\/strong> and Noreen Phillips<\/strong>, Patsy Albano<\/strong>, Ruth Descelles<\/strong>, Elaine Gero<\/strong>, Barbara Loughran<\/strong> and Becky Walker<\/strong> participating. Other swimmers who took part in a skit, “Jimmy Crack Corn<\/em>,” were Claire Devine<\/strong>, Bunny Burke<\/strong>, Lucille Boissonault<\/strong>, Beverly Walsh<\/strong>, Patsy Burke<\/strong>, Joanne Walke<\/strong>r, Joanne Cavanaugh<\/strong>, Joyce Goulet<\/strong>, Anne Burnett<\/strong> and Joanne Vienneau<\/strong> and then did a tango. Sisters raced against each other and the winners were Midge Burke<\/strong>, Claire Devine<\/strong>, Irene Gosselin<\/strong> and Barbara Krajewski<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Comediennes<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a comedy skit, Claire Devine<\/strong>, the mother, rode her baby, Beverly Walsh<\/strong>, around in a baby carriage and then dumped her in the pool. Lucille Boissobault entertained with songs.<\/p>\n

A ballet exhibition was given by Ann Burnett<\/strong>, Bunny Burke<\/strong>, Julie Garbacik, Shirley Savard, Pauline Ciurchesne, Ann McAndrew, JoAnne Vienneau, Dorothy Krajewski, Midge Burke<\/strong> and Carol Clare<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the peanut and spoon race, winners were Joanne Zwirbla<\/strong> and Carol Clare<\/strong>. Winners of the tin hat race were Julie Garbacik<\/strong> and Judy Dietz<\/strong>. In the pie plate race, JoAnne Zwerbla<\/strong> and Ann Burnett<\/strong> won. Prizes in the balloon race went to Midge Burke<\/strong> and Bunny Burke<\/strong>. Umbrella racing winners were Joanne Zwerbla<\/strong> and Anne Burnett<\/strong>. Winners of the potato race were Carol Clare<\/strong> and Julie Garbacik<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Formations Close Show<\/strong><\/p>\n

THe show closed with formation swimming. Those who participated were Pauline Courchesne, Claire Devine, Christine Burnett, Lucille Boissonault, Judy Dietz, Kathleen Devine, Georgette Bousquet, Agnes Corley, Joanne Zwerbla<\/strong> and Franny Shea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
