Jimmy Fund Get $37; Barristers Close Season With 24 – 15 Win<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just Before the Battle, which netted $38 for the Jimmy Fund, Aldermen and Lawyers face the camera to make a permanent record of the benefit softball game played before a large crowd at Soldiers Field, Holyoke, last night. Left to Right, President Paul L. Brougham of the Board of Aldermen, Deputy Sheriff Edward Sacks, manager of the Lawyers team, Alderman John G. McLean, James Farrell and John J. Whelihan, Atty. John Moriarty and Michael Donoghue.<\/p><\/div>\n

Holyoke, August 30. —<\/strong> The Jimmy Fund netted almost a dollar for every run scored in the benefit softball game tonight between the Lawyers and the Board of Aldermen before a large crowd at Soldiers Field. Jimmy Fund baseball boxes were passed among the crowd and contributions amounted to $37.64.<\/p>\n

Childs Tosses First Ball<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lawyers defeated the city legislators by 24 – 25. To add color to the event, Alderman Fred Childs<\/strong>, veteran member, tossed out the first ball and former Alderman Lionel Boucher took an unsuccessful clout at the initial pitch. City Solicitor Joseph F. Kelly<\/strong> and James E. Barr<\/strong>y, chairman of the Water Board, were umpires.<\/p>\n

Clark Lyon<\/strong> hit a home run for the barristers and the fielding play of the game was a catch by Alderman James Farrell<\/strong> in deep center field.<\/p>\n

Scully is Re-elected<\/strong><\/p>\n

The game closed the softball season for the lawyers. Following the game Capt. George Scully<\/strong> was re-elected for next season.<\/p>\n

Manager Eddie Sacks<\/strong> of the Lawyers was at the microphone announcing the batters and making periodic appeals for contributions to the Jimmy Fund.<\/p>\n
