John K. Judd, 77, Dies; Long in Paper Trade
\nSouth Hadley Native Was Former Alderman and Officer of Three Banks<\/strong><\/p>\n

23 December 1929 — John Kellogg Judd<\/strong>, president of the Judd Paper Company, died this morning at 9:30 at the home, 48 Fairfield Avenue. He leaves his widow, Cleora Fowler Munson<\/strong>, who he married July 6, 1876, and two sons, Philip M. Judd<\/strong> and Clifford K. Judd<\/strong>, both of Holyoke, and a daughter, Mrs. C. Harry Graves<\/strong> of Springfield.<\/p>\n

The funeral will be held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. Dr. Elliott W. Brown<\/strong> of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery.<\/p>\n

John Kellogg Judd<\/strong>, son of Harvey and Catherine B. Kellogg Judd<\/strong> was born in South Hadley, January 27, 1851, and since 1878 has been a resident of Holyoke. He was educated in the public schools and Hopkins Academy at old Hadley, beginning his business careet at the age of 20 as a traveling salesman. In 1878 he located in Holyoke, and in 1882 organized the Judd paper company, wholesale paper dealers. In 1890 the business was incorporated under the same name, John Kellogg Judd<\/strong> being its first and only president. The company is a most prosperous one conducting a large business with the paper trade all over the country.<\/p>\n

In addition to his duties as executive head of the Judd Paper Company he was vice president of the People’s Savings Bank, and a director of the City Bank and of the Home Bank all in Holyoke. He was a Republican in politics and had taken part in the municipal government both as a citizen and official, serving as president of the council in 1886 and as alderman for two years, 1900 and 1901.<\/p>\n

He was a deacon of the First Congregational Church for 32 years and was interested in all good causes. He was fond of out of doors and its pleasures, finding both relazation and enjoyment in the advantages Mount Tom Golf Club affords its members.<\/p>\n

\nWidow of Paper Company President Passes Away Month After Husband<\/strong><\/p>\n

30 January 1930 — Mrs. Cleora Fowler Judd<\/strong>, 78, widow of John J. Judd<\/strong>, died tonight at her home, 48 Fairfield Avenue. Her husband, who was president of the Judd Paper Company, died only a month ago. She was born at Huntington, may 8, 1852, daughter of Garry and Harriet Lyman Munson<\/strong>, and was graduated from the Abbott academy at Andover in 1873. Her marriage to Mr. Judd took place at Huntington, July 5, 1876. She had lived in Holyoke for the past 50 years.<\/p>\n

She leaves two sons, Philip M. and Clifford K.<\/strong>, both of Holyoke; one daughter, Mrs. Marian (C. Harry) Graves<\/strong> of Springfield; a brother Samuel Lyman Munson<\/strong> of Albany, N.Y., and two grandchildren, Elizabeth W. Judd<\/strong> and Richard M. Judd<\/strong> of this city. The funeral will be held at the home unday afternon at 2:30, with burial in Forestdale Cemetery.<\/p>\n
