{"id":3681,"date":"2012-01-27T08:08:39","date_gmt":"2012-01-27T15:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/holyokemass.com\/?p=3681"},"modified":"2012-01-27T08:08:39","modified_gmt":"2012-01-27T15:08:39","slug":"mrs-towne-has-lead-in-farmers-daughter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/holyokemass.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/27\/mrs-towne-has-lead-in-farmers-daughter\/","title":{"rendered":"Mrs. Towne Has Lead in Farmer&#8217;s Daughter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>27 January 1939<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs. Richard Towne<\/strong> is to play the lead in the old fashioned melodrama, &#8220;<em>She Was Only a Farmer&#8217;s Daughter or Adrift on the Ocean of Life<\/em>,&#8221; which will be featured in the program of the &#8220;<em>Gaities of 1883<\/em>&#8221; to be presented February 3 in the Valley Arena, under the auspices of the Junior Service Corps.<\/p>\n<p>Others in the cast with Mrs. Towne who plays &#8220;Mary, the farmer&#8217;s daughter,&#8221; are <strong>Norman Thompson<\/strong> as Joe Brandon, her father; <strong>Jane Clark<\/strong>, as Helene, a friend of Mary&#8217;s; <strong>Edward Kessler<\/strong> in the part of Oliver Oakhead, the squire; <strong>Brewster Towne<\/strong>, as Danny Daunton, a noble youth; <strong>Jack McElwain<\/strong>, playing the part of Lieut. Truhart; <strong>Ralph Ratlan<\/strong> as Capt. Reid; <strong>Wayne Alderman<\/strong> as De Silva; <strong>Mrs. Henry V. Burgee<\/strong> as Aubeah, a servant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs. Frank Button<\/strong> will play Josephine, daughter of Manuel, and <strong>James Cronk<\/strong> will take the part of Manuel, a planter in Santa Domingo; <strong>Terry Ba<\/strong>gg will appear as Nicholas Nightshade, and <strong>Bill Millen <\/strong>is playing the part of Sam Stoneheart; <strong>Norris Sutherland<\/strong> will be Ralph Ratlan and <strong>Bill Kessler<\/strong> will play the part of a sailor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Atty. Addison B. Green<\/strong> will be master of ceremonies and also on the program will be the male quartet, &#8220;The Gashouse Boys,&#8221;<strong> Tony Caulet, Joseph Cauley, Michael O&#8217;Brien<\/strong> and <strong>Eddie Vallancourt<\/strong>; choruses will include the &#8220;Can-Can Girls&#8221; with <strong>Miss Rhoda Chapin, Mrs. Brewster Towne, Misses Alice Newton, Clarissa Green, Barbara Boslen, Virginia Boley, Helen McGrath, Dorcas Hill, Isabelle Adie<\/strong> and <strong>Ann McIntosh<\/strong>; the &#8220;Amazons&#8221; which will include the above group and also <strong>Mrs. Terry Bagg <\/strong>and <strong>Miss Doris Young<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Cake Walk&#8221; group includes <strong>Douglas Adie<\/strong> and <strong>Clarissa Green<\/strong>, the leads and the <strong>Misses Mackintosh, Daley, Janet Briggs, Adie and Albert Alderman, Bill Kessler and Charles Blumenauer<\/strong>. The &#8220;Tintypes&#8221; will include <strong>Robert Goss, Miss Frances Buckley, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hopkins, Mrs. Harold B.
