C. Fayette Smith was the son of Jonathan Moseley Smith who ran the swing ferry at Smith’s Ferry, his mother was Lucinda (Warren) Smith. C. Fayette was a well-known banker starting his career at age 16 when he became a clerk at the Hadley Falls Bank. He went on to work for the George Prentiss company for a number years, then returned to banking in 1891 through 1897 as a cashier for the City bank. At that point he was elected Bank President. He remained unmarried and was buried in Forestdale Cemetery.

Adapted from The Springfield Republican.

01 February 1931 From a Photograph Taken Over 50 Years Ago All his life C.
