Jess Was Well Known in State Fraternal Societies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Holyoke, Dec. 10 &#8212;<\/strong> James F. Jess, for 27 years the proprietor of the Hotel Jess and widely known in Western Massachusetts among hotel men, died tonight at his home, 41 Fairfield Avenue, after a few days illness. He was a member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks, division 5, A.O.H. and the Holy Name Society of Holy Cross Church. Before going into the hotel business he had operated a saloon at one time.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jess was born in Hartford, Connecticut, coming to Holyoke when two years old. He attended the Christian Brothers School in Chicopee, and the Childs Business School of this city. Besides his widow Margaret, he leaves two daughters, Margaret at home and Mary K., teacher in the Springdale School; three brothers, William, George, and Michael of Holyoke and three sisters, Mary and Mrs. W. F. Brady of this city and Mrs. W. R. Stapleton of West Haven, Connecticut. The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday morning at 9:15, followed by a solemn high requiem mass at Holy Cross Church at 10:00.
