Marx<br \/>1867 -1957<br \/>Forestdale Cemetery<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Holyoke, Dec. 22 &#8212;<\/strong> Henry J. Marx, 90, of 58 Brown Ave., an inventor in the textile field, died at his home today after a short illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Germany October 15, 1867, he came to Easthampton in 1885 and for the past 72 years has resided in Holyoke. He was a machinist by trade, learning his job at the old Holyoke Hydrant Company and working there for seven years. He was later employed at the American Thread Company, retiring in 1937.<!--more-->Among Mr. Marx&#8217;s inventions were a thread-winding machine and a spooler, both of which are still in use by the American thread Company at Willimantic, Connecticut. He also invented a fire door lining which the New York Edison Company used for many years. Marx<br \/>Patent Application Image<br \/>Furnace Door Protector<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Marx was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was in the building committee when the original Lutheran Church was constructed on Jackson St. many years ago. He was also an elder of the church for many years and was formerly church treasurer.<\/p>\n<p>He leaves six sons, Dr. Frederick W. of Holyoke, George H. at home, Henry G. of West Springfield, Dr. William C. of Holyoke, Herbert J. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Walter H. of Boston; four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Treblehorn of Longmeadow, Mrs. Anna Grenier of Wallingford, Connecticut, Mrs. Erene Brandenberger of Newington, Connecticut, and Miss Elizabeth Marx of New York City, 16 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>The funeral will be held at the Alger funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2 with Rev. Walter E. Menzel officiating.
