Bock.<\/p>\n<p>The assessed valuation of the entire site i $149,680, divided as follows: Bock property, $17,710; Belmont Apartment Block, owned by Antoine Bourgeault, assessed at $71,400; Charles E. Preston property, including the Willard Apartments and the house in the read, $20,320; the vacant lot owned by John O&#8217;Connell, assessed at $19,200, and the Joseph Carrier property on Elm street, assessed for $21,050.<\/p>\n<p>THe location is central and will obviate the use of the substation on Maple Street as well as the present post office site, which is assessed at $144,230.<\/p>\n<p>Several sites in the city had been offered the government, among them the William Whiting property, acquired from the Lyman Mills, Inc., which liquidated; The O&#8217;Neil property at Maple and Hampden Streets; the waterpower property on Dwight Street; the old Lawrence School; the telephone property at Elm and Suffolk Streets; and the property on the south side of Hampden between Maple Street and the alleyway.<\/p>\n<p>Adapted from <em>The Springfield Republican.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>14 January 1933 Holyoke, January 13 &#8212; The selection of property on Dwight Street from Chestnut to Elm Streets by the Treasury Department as a site for the new post office includes the building on Elm Street owned by Joseph Carrier and the building on Chestnut Street owned by Frieda O.
