CHAPTER X.
ELECTION AND QUALIFICATIONS OF TEACHERS.


Rule 1. When a teacher is appointed by the Superintendent prior to the regular meeting in June, such appointment shall terminate at the close of the year then current.

Rule 2. At the regular meeting in June, the election of teachers shall be the regular order of business. At this time, the Board shall act upon the appointments of the Superintendent, and make the elections for the ensuing year.

Rule 3. Teachers are required to file written acceptances of appointments and elections within ten days after the receipt of written notice from the Secretary.

Rule 4. To be eligible for regular appointments, kindergarten and elementary school (grades 1-6) teachers must be graduates of an approved two year normal school course, and must have had at least two years' successful teaching experience.

Rule 5. Teachers possessing the qualifications of elementary teachers may be appointed to junior high school positions.

Rule 6. To be eligible for regular appointments, senior high school teachers must be graduates of an approved four year collegiate course, and must have had at least two years' successful teaching experience.

Rule 7. To be eligible for regular appointments, teachers in special departments must be graduates of a four year high school course and of an approved two year training course at least and must present evidence of special aptitude and preparation for the work required, and have had at least one year's successful teaching experience.

Rule 8. Teachers in Continuation and Vocational Schools must possess the qualifications required by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

Rule 9. Principals and supervisors of special departments must possess the maximum qualifications required of the teachers tinder them.

Rule 10. All candidates for positions as teachers may be required to pass examinations before being considered for appointment. All teachers may be required to pass promotional examinations before receiving transfers to higher grades or prior to receiving annual increments in salary.

Rule 11. After three years of satisfactory service, a teacher shall be elected to serve during the pleasure of the Committee as provided for in Chapter 71, Section 41, of the Massachusetts General Laws.

Rule 12. The marriage of a woman teacher shall operate to sever her connection with the public schools.

Rule 13. In accepting an appointment, teachers shall agree to give four weeks notice of intention to resign at any time during the year, which notice shall not be during the months of July or August.
