I remember the good old days of Mountain Park As a kid I would go there with the family and there was always something to do from, Live Polka Band with Larry Chesky, Bingo, Lots of games and rides for everyone. There were also shows of live country music, talent shows, and even bear Wrestling. W.H.Y.N Day was always a fun but very busy day at the park also. As I grew up I worked at the park and it was fun to be able to make the other kids have there fun like I used to do. I Remember Mable she used to clean the park up and she would always wear her funny hats or the now popular barrette/headband with stars and things on them. How she could really make people laugh. It is to bad that it is gone now. If People would not have burnt the place down I know it would have reopened from speaking with one of the owners Roger, But having to rebuild everything and the rides that needed some updating and with the competition of Riverside Amusements now Six Flags New England was just to much. It is a shame that it is gone but at least the Merry Go Round is in the State park after a long period of fund raising to purchase it and a lot of hard work to refurbish it. I wish that more could have been saved and kept in a type of museum of remembrance of the long history of the family Amusement Park.

Richard, it really is amazing how many of us have such warm memories of Mountain Park. As you say, it really is a shame more was unable to be preserved!

Holyoke-Chicopee: A Perspective, by Ella Merkel DiCarlo. DiCarlo, a former Transcript columnist offers a fascinating compilation of her essays. Published in 1982, this out-of-print book is worth looking for in the aftermarket.

Holyoke, by Craig Della Penna. The first Holyoke book in the Arcadia series, published in 1997.

Belle Skinner Collection, by Ruth Isabel Skinner. Published in 1933, this book is long out of print but copies are still available in the aftermarket.
