J. Roy Lewis of 73 Fairfield avenue has purchased the 23-acre property of the late Frank H. Metcalf at 1267 Northampton street. The Lewis family will occupy it in the fall. Mrs. Katherine M. Allen, Mr. Metcalf’s daughter, and his granddaughter, Juliette Allen, are now living on the estate.
The house was built in 1890 by the late Ernest Lovering, then agent of the Lyman mills. The property was then part of the extensive Hastings farm. Mr. Lovering drew the plans and supervised the construction himself. When the Loverings left Holyoke in 1910, Joseph Metcalf bought the property and remodeled the house extensively. In 1921, Frank Metcalf acquired it.
