Henking’s Thanksgiving Day

While not in Holyoke, Henking’s was a popular eating establishment located on Lyman Street in Springfield. This is a nice example of a 1916 Thanksgiving menu, all for the price of $2.00. While $2.00 seems modest now, remember the average salary in 1916 was $750 per year, or about $14.50 a week. (Click on Menu to enlarge)

Belle Skinner Collection, by Ruth Isabel Skinner. Published in 1933, this book is long out of print but copies are still available in the aftermarket.
