The city of Holyoke is promised lots of opposition to its request for permission to get an increased water supply in Southampton. The amount that would be drawn is small, but it has aroused a great stir in Southampton and Easthampton. It is a necessity for Holyoke to have more water and the Legislature will probably have plenty of proof of this offered. the Manhan supply is the only one that can be adopted by the city unless water is pumped from the river. The people who are damaged be the project could be sure of getting paid for all they suffer and if Southampton needs water for domestic or fire purposes, it could be arranged amicably. For two years the city has tried to get a better supply and has failed because of outside opposition in the city. Now it is agreed that more water s needed badly, and Holyoke people think that the move to get it should not be opposed by any one. It is a mater that concerns the health of the city in a large measure ad the Legislature will probably look at it in that way. The amount of water that can be carried between the sources of the small brook on Pomeroy mountain and the Ashley pond reservoir, which is at an elevation not far below the source, would be of small value. The water commissioners should use all possible means to make it sure that the water can be secured.
