Arthur Whittaker will be $13.50 “to the good” by his lucky shot at a wildcat in the Connecticut Valley log pile Thursday. He gets a bounty of $5 from the county, and in addition the skin is worth $8.50. His bill came into the city hall yesterday, and City Auditor Kenney, who had never received a bill from a wildcat bounty before, immediately began to delve into the statutes, and finally called up Robert O. Morris, clerk of courts, in this city, who told him that the state law held and that Whittaker was entitled to his $5 from the city. “The skin, if in good condition , is worth more than the $5,” added Mr. Morris. Mayor Chapin smiled when the bill came to him later in the afternoon. “Seems to me that is a new one on the city of Holyoke,” said he. “How is that, Mr. Kenney?” “The county reimburses the city,” explained the city auditor. “All right, be sure and send them the bill,” said the mayor as he signed the order. The animal weighed about 25 pounds and would have weighed 35 or more if in good flesh, and was as large as a good sized dog.
