Ernest Krause

Ernest Krause, 90, died of illuminating gas poisoning last night at the home of his daughter Mrs. Clara Therien of 563 Canal Street. The gas was escaping from a gas heater in a toilet. The fire department sent an inhalator to the scene in charge of Frank Gero and later police responded. Dr. Harry A. Baker responded to an emergency call and pronounced the aged man dead. Later Medical Examiner A. L Kinne viewed the body and authorized the removal to the Alger funeral Home.

Mr. Krause had been in falling health for the past several months. He was born in Krimmitchau, Germany, coming to this country 63 years ago and to Holyoke soon afterward. He was one of the early German settlers here. Until his retirement 17 years ago, he was employed at the National Blank Book Company and was a member of the Old-Timers Club. His wife, the former Marle Mengel, died five years ago. He leaves two sons, Paul of South Hadley Falls, Ernest of Holyoke; and six daughters, Mrs. Clara Therien and Mrs. Alex Thomson both of Holyoke, Mrs Albert Belcher of Longmeadow, Mrs. William Sheldon of Vineland, N.J., Mrs. Louise Brizard and Miss Lillian Krause both of New York City; 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Ten grandchildren and three of the great grandchildren are in the armed services. The funeral will be held at the Alger funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2. Rev. E. B. Robinson will officiate. Cremation will follow in Springfield cemetery, Springfield.
