The Carpenter, March 1913
This is an interesting publication from March, 1913. The Carpenter was a monthly trade based journal published in Indianapolis, Indiana representing the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Published since 1881, 1913 was volume 33. For Union Men, The Carpenter contained tips, union vote results, both French and German language news and addressed solutions to various carpentry problems in articles each month.
It was interesting to learn The Carpenter also provided a forum where notices of missing members — all union members — were published by family in the hope of learning something of their whereabouts. Many had photos published with these ads, an example follows.

Brother Edward P. Griffin, of L. U. 1350, Holyoke, Mass, eloped from that place with a woman by the name of Jenny Wilder, leaving a sick wife and two children, one of whom is very seriously ill. Members and business agents are requested to be on the lookout for him, particularly in New York, North Dakota or South Dakota. Any information will be gladly received by his wife, Mrs. E.
