Auto and Team in a Smash
Both are Badly Laid Up in a Collision on Chicopee Street.
Despite the fact that Charles L. Higginbotham has a smashed up automobile, with $600 in repairs o look out for, appearance would indicate that a damage suit is also to be added to his list of troubles. Mr. Higginbotham ‘s troubles began yesterday morning at 12:30, when he crashed into a buggy driven b two men on Chicopee street, smashing the buggy, disabling the horse so that he had to be shot, throwing the two men out into the street, and damaging the automobile to such an extent that in the neighborhood of $600 will have to be spent in its repair. John Doran and John Mazlosz were driving a buggy owned by Kasmir Twardowski yesterday morning soon after midnight, on their way to Lovers’ lane, after Mr. and Mrs. Twardowski, who were at a wedding celebration. When they had reached a point near the Herman Gross house they were run into by the car driven by Mr. Higginbotham. The horse was struck in the side, knocking it off its feet and sending it sprawling in the road, inflicting several sever cuts on the side and legs, so that it had to be shot later. The buggy was smashed to splinters and scattered all over the road, and the two men hurled from the seat. The men in the buggy, however, while thrown to the ground with considerable force and badly shaken up, did not receive injuries severe enough to warrant their being attended by a physician. Mr. Higginbotham, who is proprietor of the Grand and Palace, moving picture theatres in Holyoke, was driving toward Chicopee and said that the team was on the wrong side of the street. He claims that he did not see it until it was too late to avoid the collision. The horse was examined by a veterinary, who ordered him shot, and Officer Frank Wright was appointed executioner. From present indications it seems that the Poles will bring a damage suit against Mr. Higginbotham.
