The doctors and druggists of the city had a clambake at Jones Point yesterday afternoon, managed by6 Jacob Becker, and pronounced by those who attended to be second to none of those held at that famous resort for clambakers. There were about 65 present, and peace and harmony brooked over the scene until the baseball game opened, with T. J. Carmody for umpire. For the first few innings things went smoothly. This was not to the liking of the genial master plumber, who is never happy unless everybody else is unhappy, and he proceeded straightway to give some riotous and frightful decision that would make even Umpire Merrick of Holyoke ball field fame look like the thirtieth part of 30 cents. Dissension promptly arose, and the twin doves of peace and harmony scuttled off to the underbrush with broken pinions. The decisions all favored the doctors, and the wrath of the druggists knew no bounds. One of them fairly sizzled with ire as Umpire Carmody, with a calm smile and a look of sanctified benevolence, gave impossible decisions in favor of the pill men. The limit was reached very soon, and the druggists refused to play, and then Umpire Carmody awarded the game to the doctors, 9 to 0. The score when up to the point of the wrath-provoking decisions was 7 to 5 in favor of the druggists. It will be well for Umpire Carmody to have his prescriptions compounded in some other city than Holyoke during the next 12 months.
