A Pole Works a Flim-Flam on a Fellow Countryman.
Two Poles, Leopold Sowrousky and Antone Kezmoski, came to Worcester early Tuesday afternoon, and as a result, Antone is $200 out of pocket. Both live in Holyoke, Leopold at 960 at Park street, and Antone at 23 Olive. They have been in this country only five or six months. Antone Kezmoski has been out of employment for several days, and he confided his sad plight to his brother Pole, Leopold. The latter saw an opportunity for overcoming the financial depression and seized it without hesitation. He told Antone that he would assist him, and stated to him that he would secure him a position Worcester if he would deposit a pledge of $200 as a guarantee of good faith. Antone agreed. The details of the visit were arranged, and Tuesday afternoon both parties appeared in town. At 5 o’clock in the evening Leopold asked Antone for his $200 pledge, and the latter unsuspectingly handed it over in an envelope. Leopold examined it, and then, after shuffling it for a few moments among his own letters, he returned to Antone an envelope which was the exact counterpart of the original, but which contained, in place of $200, some odd scraps of paper. Antone discovered the mistake, but by that time Leopold had fled, richer by $200. The matter was reported to the police between 9 and 10 o’clock and the Holyoke authorities were notified. Leopold Sowrousky is 28 years of age. He holds his head down when he walks, as though he were round shouldered. He is 5 feet 9 inches in height, and has a slim figure. He wears a light mustache, and at the time of his disappearance was dressed in a yellow suit, with derby hat. He has a wife and one child residing in Holyoke.
