Yesterday was a day of rumors, and among them was a persistent report that Caspar Ranger was drowned. Mr. Ranger was seen last evening, and denied very emphatically that he was drowned. His horse was drowned in the canal by the Bigelow street mill of the Farr alpaca company in the afternoon. He left it to go into the mill, and during his absence the horse took fright and ran away, plunging off the head gates into the canal. It was later pulled out. The horse was valued at $150.
