Engineering Department Taking Preparatory Survey of Streets and Walks.
The engineering department and the board of public works have made arrangements for a survey of all the roadways, sidewalks and curbing in the city and plans will be prepared by the department from the measurements taken. These maps will show the exact width of the roadways and sidewalks and the board will have them to turn to when planning for changes or in other matters affecting the streets. At the present time there are many differences in the width of the roadways and of sidewalks: on some streets there are tree belts and on others there are none and there is no way of knowing regarding a proposition affecting the streets without a personal visit. The maps will be especially valuable when the proposition of accepting or laying out a new street comes up. One of the employees of the board of public works will assist the engineering department during the work. The surveys have already started. The board of public works and the engineering department inspected with the Ingleside underpass yesterday with reference to the improvements to the approaches.
