Pig’s Ear

The Pig's Ear

The Pig's Ear

The Yankee Pedlar was founded in 1947, my mother lived and had grown up a mere block away from the Pedlar. It was an iconic place for us and we eagerly looked for the familiarity of seeing it as well as spotting changes over the years.

Eugene “Gene” Tamburi and his wife Catherine founded the place and many others over the years in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Many years later I became a fan of The Pig’s Ear and later incarnation as the Golden Lemon, also Tamburi creations. I can remember sitting in the Pig’s Ear and listening to Sarah Vaughn singing “Old Cape Cod” on the jukebox. William Dwight Jr. purchased the place around 1981 and honestly I have no idea what, if anything, is in the space anymore.

In 1982, Gene Tamburi died, his wife Catherine a few years later leaving the Yankee Pedlar as a notable Holyoke icon.
