by Laurel | January 8th, 2012

Wonder when the most recent sighting of a bobcat/lynx has been in the greater Holyoke area.

Arthur Whittaker, employed at the mill of the Connecticut Valley lumber company, yesterday afternoon shot a lynx or wildcat in the log pile of the company with a shotgun at short range, killing it almost instantly. Several of the men had reported some sort of an animal hanging about the yard and so Whittaker brought down his gun and started to hunt for it. The animal was located in the log pile and after some maneuvering he got a good shot at it. The animal was very thin, and had evidently been living upon short rations. It is believed that the extreme cold had driven it into the city from the woods and mountains. Whittaker will probably have the skin mounted, as the coat is in good condition.
