The Dr. J. J. O’Connor property at the corner of Maple and Dwight Streets, Holyoke, was sold at auction yesterday for $25,050 to John C. Daly of Holyoke. It was advertised for foreclosure of a mortgage held by the Mechanics Savings Bank and it was to have been sold the 11th. The sale was put off for a week by a mutual agreement of the bank and Mrs. O’Connor’s lawyer and it was then postponed for another week by an agreement. The bank was represented by E. W. Chapin, who had engaged A. L. Shumway to sell the property and Mrs. O’Connor’s lawyer, William Hamilton, had engaged Mayor N. D. Winter of this city to be auctioneer. A little discussion took place between the lawyers and Mr. Shumway sold the property. Lemuel Sears bid about $16,000 to cover the bank’s claim and Caspar Ranger offered $25,000. Then J. C. Daly bid $25,050 and it was sold to him. He put up a check of $500 to bind the bargain. It was thought that he was bidding in the interests of Mrs. O’Connor, but he said he was not and that he would make a lot of money by selling it before the deeds were passed. The mortgages are about $22,000 and there is a lien for taxes of about $1100. The property contains eight tenements and all are occupied.
