Walz - Gewinner Tombstone, Forestdale Cemetery

William Walz, 78, of 81 Hitchcock Street, a retired Meat and Grocery Merchant, died today at Holyoke Hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Walz was born in Austria, December 9, 1873, and settled in Williamburg on his arrival in this country 57 years ago. For the past 55 years he had lived in this city. He was engaged in the meat and grocery business for 34 years in various parts of the city, and his last business was New England Market at 78 Chapin Street. His wife, barbara (Gewinner) Walz died in 1939. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a son, Rudolph of Easthampton, two daughters, Mrs. Julia B. Engel and Miss Helen C. Walz, both at home; four brothers, John and Michael of this city, Louis of South Hadley and Henry of Easthampton; a sister, Mrs. Lena Martin of this city; a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at the Alger funeral home Saturday at 2. Rev. Walter E. Menzel will officiate. Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery.
