Robert Inglis, Baker, Ardent Dry, Is Dead

Holyoke, April 10. — Robert Inglis, one of Holyoke’s leading bakers, died this morning at the home, 345 Sargeant street. Mr. Inglis has been in poor health for some time and the end came early this morning.

Mr. Inglis was a man of strong convictions. A total abstainer he espoused any cause that sought to teach temperance or total abstinence among the growing generation.

Mr. Inglis was born in Moffatt, Dumfrieshire, Scotland, July 27, 1864, and for some years was engaged as a porter at Glasgow station. Later he became a fireman and worked at that trade until July, 1886, when he came to this country and settled in Holyoke. He went to work for Glen C. Frissell and was with Mr. Frissell as outside salesman for 12 years. Later he worked for R. H. Dietz for eight years and then set up with Robert Oliver in a baking business.

He leaves besides his widow, Nellie (Reynoldson) Inglis, a brother, George of this city, and a sister, Janet.

  1. Great idea to include the obituary with the headstone. Gives it a more positive attitude, I think.

  2. Thanks Eileen, I always wonder about the person a memorial represents. Your blog looks fantastic by the way, I’ve bookmarked it!
