Well-Known Holyoke Young People Married Yesterday
The wedding of Howard Farr Metcalf of the Farr Alpaca Company and Miss Rose Bartlett Heywood, daughter of Mrs. C. E. Heywood of 161 Northampton Street, Holyoke, was celebrated yesterday afternoon at 5 in the presence of a select company of the relatives and college friends of the bride and groom at the bride’s residence. Rev. H. H. Morrill performed the ceremony with the full Episcopal service, and following the wedding ceremony a reception was held, a which a larger company were the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf were assisted in receiving at the reception by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Metcalf and Mrs. C. E. Heywood. Barr served a wedding repast.
The decorations, which were by Howland, were choice and artistic, and at the wedding and during the reception the Philharmonic orchestra furnished music. Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf will take an extended wedding trip before going to housekeeping, but have leased Mayor Chapin’s residence on Oak Street and will live there for at least a year. The bride is a graduate of Vassar College and the groom is a chemist at the Farr Alpaca Company. Among the pleasant features of the day was the unexpected presence of two friends of the bride, Mrs. Frederick Fuller of Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Howard Thayer of Tarrytown. Vassar College was strongly represented in the list of guests and in the bridal party. The decorations in the wedding room were pink roses with heavy green banking, pink roses and laurel in the hall, and white roses and lilies of the valley in the dining room.
The bridal party entered in the usual order, the ushers leading, followed by the bridemaids and groomsmen, the bride coming in on the arm of her brother, W. C. Heywood of New York City, and being given away by her mother. The best man was Ralph Ranlet, and the groomsmen besides Mr. Heywood were James D. Rockwell of New York City and Charles Merriam of Holyoke. The bridemaids were Miss Martha Heywood, Miss Rachel Heywood, Miss Gertrude Heywood and Miss Gertrude Metcalf. The bride wore marquise lace and carried a showed bouquet of sweet peas. Two of the bridemaids, Misses Rachel and Martha Heywood, wore green muslin and carried white roses, while the other two, Miss Gertrude Heywood and Miss Gertrude Metcalf, wore pink muslin, the effect being most charming. The reception immediately followed the ceremony, and the bridal pair left in the evening for their wedding trip.

Smith and Miss Lucy Barker of Bellows Falls, Vt., Clemens Herschel, Winslow Herschel and Miss Herschel of Glen Ridge, N.J., Thomas B. Martin of New York, Miss Mary Bailey of McKeesport, Pa., Miss Elizabeth Dwight of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Miss Ida Thallon of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. William Plummer and Stephen Holman of Phillips Beach, Mrs. Sidney Heywood and Misses Hattie and Ethel Heywood of Jackson, Mich.
