Mt. Tom Man’s Auto Collides With Bridge at Holyoke, But He Cannot Be Found
Holyoke, Jan. 21 — Julius D. Erat, 20, of Mount Tom Junction, is missing and his car which collided with an iron railing late last night by the second level canal bridge on Sargeant Street is in a local garage. indications point to the fine possibility that Erat may have been hurled from the machine when it struck the bridge into the waters of the canal. The current is swift at this point and would carry a man struggling in the water rapidly down stream.
Erat is said to have left his home about 8 or 9 last evening. George Buckley of Race Street heard the crash when the car struck the railing and looking out of his window saw the car rammed against the railing but no driver in sight. He went to the scene of the accident but found no one and notified the police who went to the place. a hat with the name card of Julius Erat was found in the car. The engine was stopped and it was evident from the conditions that it could not have been going at a high rate of speed or it would have broken through and plunged into the canal.
