Prominent Holyoke Men Enjoying a Chess Game at the Old Bay State Club

At Old Bay State Club 35 years ago (About 1894)

Holyoke, February 16 — This rare photograph was taken in the old Bay State Club rooms probably 35 years ago. All shown are dead. One the right is Charles A. Judd, who was in the tinning and plumbing business. Next to him is Edwin L. Squier, for years a freight agent of the Boston & Main Railroad. Next is Architect E. A. Ellsworth. The man on the extreme left is Judge W. B. C. Pearsons, Holyoke’s first mayor. The photo seems to show a cigarette in the mouth of Judge Pearsons, who probably never smoked a cigarette in his life.
