Smiths Ferry Tombstone

Smiths Ferry Tombstone

Once in a while I like pointing out something of interest that is available on the HolyokeMass.com website, but may not be immediately noticed, since it involves a little bit of exploration.

I’ve completed a number of cemetery tombstone inventories and a few are online.  One is the Smiths Ferry Cemetery, located on Route 5, just south of the entrance to the Delaney House.

This inventory was completed at least 10 years ago at this point, so there may be some newer tombstones that should be added to the site. The inventory itself is based on tombstone inscriptions — so if you are seeking information on the burial of someone who may not have a tombstone memorial, there will be no record available on the website.  Some stones of softer materials, such as marble (which wears down easily) may be mostly illegible and those I have tried to indicate in some manner.

At any rate, have a look — you may find it both interesting and helpful — here is the link. Scroll down to the section titles “The Inventory data” and click on the link to get to the tombstone inventory list.

And, to see a list of the many resources online in the history section of the HolyokeMass.com website, have a look here.

Have a great weekend!
