Holyoke. The campaign to put Mrs. Anna Sullivan, local CIO official, in Congress next fall gained new impetus today with the announcement that a committee of 100 Holyoke women has been organized to promote her candidacy.

Mrs. Sullivan, a Democrat who would oppose John W. Heselton for the First Congressional District seat if the campaign materializes, stated this noon:

“I am flattered to be considered for such high office, but of course I cannot commit at this time.”

Her friends, however, predicted that she would definitely seek the nomination if support from other communities in the district is forthcoming.

The 45-year-old former weaver at the William Skinner silk mill here, Mrs. Sullivan entered union work in 1937 and is now director of the joint board of the Western Massachusetts Textile Workers of America, a CIO affiliate.  She also holds the non-salaried post of vice president of the Western Massachusetts Council of CIO.

If she runs for Congress, it will be her first bid for public office.  Her husband is in a veterans’ hospital, and she lives in Holyoke with her 21-year-old son, William.
