Engagement of Twin Sisters Announced

Luncheon Given for Misses Rachel and Ruth Clark,
Formerly of Holyoke, at Holyoke

Holyoke, March 17 — Mrs. John Gilman Clark gave a luncheon this noon at her home on Madison Avenue during which the marriage engagements were announced of Misses Rachel and Ruth Clark, twin sisters of Mr. Clark. The fiance of Miss Rachel Clark is Carl Newman of New Britain, Ct., while Miss Ruth Clark’s fiance is Prof. John Trumbull Metcalf of the University of Vermont. The twin sisters came to send the weekend at the home of their brother, Miss Rachel having arrived from Boston last night, and Miss Ruth from New York this morning. The other guests were a few of the former friends of the Misses Clark, when their home was at 248 Beech Street. The table decorations included a centerpiece of swansonia and sweet peas.

The Misses Clark are the twin daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Clark. Miss Rachel Clark was a pupil at the Capen school in Northampton and later was graduated from Wheelock Kindergarten School in Boston. She spent two years in France, being a member of the kindergarten unit and at present in charge of the English department of the Wheelock School and is president of the Alumnae Association. Mr. Newman is a graduate of Wesleyan University and a member of the phi Beta Kappa society. During the war he served with the rank of lieutenant and for several years now has been secretary of the Connecticut Foundrymen’s Association. He is a member of the state industrial council and of the University Club of Hartford, Ct.

Miss Ruth Clark is a graduate of Smith College and Columbia University. For several years she taught psychology at Smith College and at present is psychologist for the Bureau of Vocational Service for Juniors in New York city. Her fiance, Prof. Metcalf, is a graduate of Yale University, being a member of Phi Beta Kappa and of the Sigmi Psi societies. He served as lieutenant in the psychology division during the war and is now teaching psychology at the University of Vermont. The plans for the wedding are as yet indefinite.

Mrs. George A. Clark, widow of George A. Clark was hostess at a dinner party at her home of Oak Street tonight, the guests including only the immediate members of the family.
