Is anyone familiar with the following Holyoke names, family or business? A reader wrote in seeking help abut the bottle feathered in the above photo. Remember, you can click through on the image to enlarge, but it reads:

Weinrich & Melzheimer
Holyoke, Mass.

According to his e-mail

“Its an 1890s era blob top soda or beer bottle from Holyoke MA. I’ve been unable to locate this bottler in any old business directory, nor locate anyone with these particular names in Holyoke around that time frame. Do you happen to have any information on this Holyoke business? I know my sister in law (who grew up in Holyoke) did some research up at the library when she was last there and found nothing”

While I couldn’t find a mention of a bottling company in Holyoke those names were definitely in Holyoke.  I saw both surnames mentioned a couple of times in terms of Turnverein social events, though again nothing to do with bottles. Ditto with Weinrich.

However … an interesting find was a marriage record dated 29 Sep 1892 for Ludwig F. Melzheimer and Anna M. Weinrich. I don’t necessarily believe in coincidence but those names are pretty unusual.  Their occupations on the license have nothing to do with bottles. It could have been a part time business that did not last long.

Please help out if you are able, I expect he will be reading this in the hope for responses.
