Giving Exhibition at O’Neill Block, Holyoke, 1892

Rescue Hookup Ladder No. 1

Rescue Hookup Ladder No. 1

After the fire department parade in 1892, the fire laddies gave an exhibition of ladder and rescue work at the O’Neill block, corner of High and Essex Streets, later the George F. O’Connor block.

At the left with dummy is Joseph Embury; at top of ladder down, John Bligh, William Ross, Thomas E. Bligh, Fred Burt, Frank Ridot, John Kelliher and William D. Bunnell. Standing on the ground, left to right (sorry, it isn’t a sharp photo), Daniel Moynihan, Amos Shepardson, William Judd, Nathan Percy, Patrick Conway, Thomas Flynn, Robert McDonnell, and James Prendergast.

This bunch was known as the “Rescue Hookup Ladder No. 1” and was located at the old High Street headquarters where the People’s Saving Bank now stands.
