Spirous Pappas Held For Giving Thomas Pappas a Black Eye

Holyoke, October 28 — Spirous Pappas of 576 South Bridge Street was arrested today on a warrant charging him with assault and battery on Thomas Pappas of the same street and with carrying a revolver. The arrest grew out of the nipping in the bud of Thomas Pappas’s love affair with Spirous Pappas’s niece, who yesterday was about to go away with  young Pappas to be married, when Uncle Spirous appeared on the scene and in his efforts to put an end to love’s young dream, gave Pappas, Jr. a black eye among other things.

It seems that the girl had previously given young Pappas her data for a marriage license and that he had procured the certificate. By agreement he met her at the house of the uncle with a wedding chariot, but the uncle was able to beat him off and carry the girl triumphantly back into the house. Today the girl said that the match had been arranged by another woman and that the agreement was that if she liked his looks she would marry him. She did not like his looks today.
