Cornerstone to be Blessed Sunday — Booklet is Prepared
Rev. Dr. John C. Ivers today announced further details of the blessing of the cornerstone and dedication of the church of the Holy Cross to be held next Sunday. A booklet is being prepared containing data of the church including the history of the parish up to the present time, donors, priests that have served, a description in detail of the church building, description of the new organ, the donors of the stained-glass window and other information of the sort.
Solemn pontifical high mass will be celebrated by Bishop Thomas M. O’Leary at services at 10:45 Sunday forenoon. There will also be confirmation by the Bishop at 4 in the afternoon and at 7:30 p.m., solemn high vespers will be sung.
The guard of honor to the bishop will be furnished by divisions 1 and 5. A large attendance of visiting priests is expected and seats as usual on such occasions will be provided for them in the sanctuary. Children, however, will not be admitted to the dedication services.
The morning sermon will be preached by Rev. Dr. Thomas P. Cummings of Northampton, the first curate in the parish. The sermon at the confirmation exercises will be preached by Rev. Donald Mullen of Chicopee, the last young man from Holy Cross parish to be ordained. The sermon at the solemn vespers at 7:30 will be preached by Re. Michael Shea of St. John’s seminary, Yonkers, N.Y. He was the first young man to be ordained a priest from the Holy Cross parish.
