Horse Killed by Car, But Young Man and Woman Were Fortunate

There was a narrow escape from a bad accident on the road from Holyoke to the city near John Prew’s in the Springdale section of Holyoke late Friday evening. W. H. Harrison of Chicopee Falls was driving toward Holyoke with a young woman, Miss May Gaffney, when they met a car coming toward this city. It looked as the car got near them as if Harrison pulled the wrong rein; at any rate the horse swerved sharply to the right and was struck with the full force of the car at good speed. The horse was killed outright and the buggy was broken into pieces. Fortunately Harrison and the young woman were thrown out and escaped with but a few bruises. The Holyoke Street railway company was notified and a hack was sent down and took the two to their homes. Mr. Harrison claims that he met a team and a car at just that point. There was plenty of room to pass between them, but his horse got frightened and made a sudden bolt. However this may be; it was a very narrow escape from death.
