The home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ryan in South Hadley Center was the scene of a very jolly affair a recent night when office force of the Holyoke Transcript and Telegram gathered to celebrate the marriage engagement of two members of the staff, William Dwight and Raymond M. O’Connell. Bridge was in order the early part of the evening, being played at six tables with Miss Mildred Picard and Samuel O’Connell the high scorer, prize winners and Miss Regina Kirkpatrick receiving the consolation favors. Following the bridge the tables were placed together in the living room and the hosts served a collation. Afterward came the unusual feature of giving a kitchen shower to each of the prospective grooms which became a very jolly feature of the evening’s entertainment, each one receiving a hamper, two similar gifts being wrapped together in each bundle and placed in one hamper The young men alternately drew a gift and read the humorous poem attached. The marriage of Mr. O’Connell will be an event of the present month, while that of Mr. Dwight will not come until later.
