Mayor Orders Peddlers Out When Florists Complain — Former to Fight
Following a conference between Mayor John F. Cronin and several florists today over the sale of Christmas trees in the streets and vacant stores the mayor ordered City Marshal William D. Nolen to put an end to the indiscriminate sales complained of. The trees thus sold were being offered at much lower prices and were better trees, as a rule, than those in the regular stores. It is extremely doubtful as to whether the city can legally go very far in the matter if the temporary dealers seek to fight. The high prices charged by the local dealers have made it profitable to bring in the trees from outside and a brisk business had been built up that is in a way a protest against the alleged exorbitant prices.
