The Casualty List From the “Coroner’s Cocktail”

by Laurel | December 28th, 2011

This is the list printed in the paper on 28 December 1919 citing the casualties from December 27 resulting from the sale of wood alcohol based “liquor.” The newspapers took to calling the fatal alcohol concoction “Coroner’s Cocktail” for obvious reasons. On this date the number of deaths increased, Chicopee alone had 42 deaths with many others hospitalized and with little hope. Much of the Front page was devoted to the dead, ill, and police proceedings involved in finding the source of the poison. As usual, click on the image for a larger view.
