John Laing
John Laing of 58 Calumet Rd., died yesterday morning in Holyoke Hospital after a long illness. Born in Leuchals, Scotland, May 14, 1887, he came to this country in 1909. Until his retirement last July he was employed for more than 40 years at the Mt. Tom mill of the American Writing Paper Co. and his last position was that of assistant superintendent. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church, Mt. Tom Lodge of Masons, the Caledonian Benefit Club, and Clan MacLaren, Scottish Clan. Besides his wife, the former Margaret Leighton, he leaves two sons, James of South Hadley, assistant treasurer and purchasing agent of L. D. Van Valkenburg Co., Willimansett and a past president of the Kiwanis Club, and Frank L. of this city, and four grandchildren. Funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30, at the Edward F. Day funeral home. Rev. Jerry W. Trexler will officiate. Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, 2-5 and 7-9 p.m.
