Paul H. Koehler Dies of Heart Attack
Well Known German Resident Passes Away at Age of 81
Holyoke, Feb. 19 — Paul H. Koehler, 81, one of the best known Germans in the Connecticut valley died today at his home, 36 Carlton Street, from a sudden heart attack. He had planned to leave tomorrow to visit his son, in Newark, N.J.
Mr. Koehler was born in Germany and came to this city in 1870. He was employed by the Henry G. Sears company for 38 years ad then opened a store of his own in Elmwood about 1892. About 25 years ago he started in the metal ceiling business in which he had been successful. He retired from active business about five years ago.
He was a member of the old Dexter hose company for over 60 years and charter member of the Bridge Street Turners; also a member of the Mount Tom Lodge of Masons. He leaves five sons, Paul of Newark, N.J., Ernest H. of Albany, N.Y., Richard W. of Los Angeles, California, Louis C. of Springfield and Karl B. of this city. Associate Medical Examiner Stanley Cox viewed the body and gave death as due to natural causes. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the home and taken to Springfield for cremation.
