At St. Patrick’s Chapel
The wedding of Miss Mary Ellen Shea of 113 Oak Street, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Shea to William Edward O’Leary, son of Mr. and Mrs. Denis O’Leary of 436 Sargeant Street, was an attractive event of the morning at 9 in St. Patrick’s chapel. Rt. Rev. Mons. John F. Fagan, pastor of St. Jerome’s Church, performed the ceremony in the presence of a large company of guests. Mons. Fagan also celebrated the nuptial mass which followed. Mrs. T. J. Moriarty, organist, played the wedding marches, accompanied by rs. Constance Callahan Stack, violinist. Mrs. Eugene A. Moriarty and Stephen Driscoll were the soloists. Masses of roses adorned the chancel of the chapel and ferns and palms were banked in the background and at either side of the altar.
Miss Gertrude Shea, cousin of the bride, was chosen as maid of honor and Mr. O’Leary’s brother, Arthur E. O’Leary served as best man. The ushers were William H. McGarry and Thomas E. Corcoran.
A princess gown of old ivory satin, fashioned in long straight lines, was worn by the bride and her veil was arranged in cape effect, attached to a simple cap-shaped headdress, which was fastened by a semi-wreath of orange blossom buds at the back of the head. Her flowers were calla lilies in a spray, tied with white satin ribbon.
Miss Gertrude Shea was gowned in jade green satin, a Lanvin model, with hat to correspond. She carried coral gladioli, tied with wide jade satin ribbon.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Hotel Nonouck for 65 guests. Miss Margaret Shea, a cousin of he bride , and Mr. and Mrs. O’Leary, parents of the groom assisted the couple in receiving. Miss Shea was in a Patou gown of green transparent velvet with hat to match. She wore a corsage bouquet. Mrs. O’Leary wore black lace and crepe and a shoulder bouquet. Music during the reception was furnished by Telesphore Bourrassa ad his orchestra. The guests from out of town included Bertram Brent of Bridgeport, CT, Miss Flora Shelburne of Patchogue, Long Island, Miss Helen Johnson of Johnstown, NY, John Driscoll of Worcester, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Broderick of Keene, NH, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Brady of Yonkers, NY, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur O’Leary, Mr. and Mrs. M. E. O’Connor and Mrs. James Moynihan of Springfield.
Mr. O’Leary and his bride left later in the day on an automobile tour, the destination being unannounced. Mrs. O’Leary traveled in a costume of kasha in Lanvin green, with a beaver brown soleil felt hat. After November 15, Mr. and Mrs. O’Leary will receive friends at the apartment in the Commodore on Appleton Street.
Mrs. O’Leary was graduated from Holyoke High School, Pratt Institute and Russell Sage College. She has been a teacher of home economics in the Highlands Junior High School. Mr. O’Leary was graduated from Goddard Seminary in Barre Vt. He is associated with the O’Leary Plumbing Company of this city.
