22 April 1906
Holyoke will open the league season next Thursday with only a fragment of the 1905 championship team again wearing the black and white, with a new manager and captain, and a little different association looking out for the business end of the game than that of the previous summer. The players and manager form somewhat of an unknown quantity. Only four men remained last year from the former season, and the same number are available this year. McCormick, last year’s captain, is on hand, as is Larkin at shortstop. Dolan is the only one of the box artists to return, and what is pleasing to the fans up the river, Shincel, the reliable, is again on deck. Manager Fleming has 14 others to make up his squad, including five pitchers, one catcher, four outfielders and four infielders. In the practice to date the candidates for the outer garden have shown up the least promising, while there is a surfeit of good infielders, so that some of the latter have been tried in the outfield.
