Miss Dorcas Miller Will Be 90 Today

Was Born in Famous Crafts Tavern at Holyoke, Where Her Father Was Proprietor

Miss Dorcas Miller will receive the congratulations of many friends tomorrow on the occasion of her 90th birthday. Miss Miller was born in Miller’s Inn, Holyoke, which later became known as Craft’s Tavern. Her father, Capt. Abner Miller, gave the land for the first meeting house of the First Congregational parish of Holyoke. Capt. Miller sold Miller’s Inn to his head man, Chester Crafts, and the name was changed to Crafts Tavern. Capt. Miller moved to Easthampton and occupied the house which is now the Colonial apartment house on Pleasant street. Miss Miller was the first librarian of the Easthampton library, which before erection of the present fine library building, was situated in the town hall.
