Ironworker Seriously Injured in Tumble from Rackliffe Building. Harry Higgins, 20, an iron worker employed by contractor F. H. Dibble, fell from the third story of the Rackliffe building on Suffolk Street shortly after noon yesterday and suffered a serious fracture of his right leg and it is feared also suffered internal injuries. He was engaged in helping set a number of floor beams and in some way missed his footing and fell, striking a cross beam on the second floor and landed in a pile of broken brick. He was unconscious when picked up and was taken to the House of Providence hospital where he was attended by W. J. Teahan.
Today and Tonight: “The Greyhound” at the Empire Theater. [Editorial note: this play was co-authored by the inimitable Wilson Mizner, a very quotable raconteur and scoundrel in his day. The play ran in New York City in early 1912, closing (according to some sources) shortly after the sinking of the Titanic. “The Greyhound” is a comedic play set upon an ocean liner and at the time it was thought to be in poor taste to keep it running considering the Titanic loss. Interesting to see the show on the road a year later. A film version of The Greyhound was made in 1914. Do take a look at Mizner and some of his hilarious quotes, a very interesting character.]
The Holyoke Lodge of Elks held their first meeting last evening in their new lodge rooms on Maple street and a large class was initiated. The new rooms will be dedicated ealy in the spring.
Fined for Stealing Coal: Five boys under 14 years of age were arraigned in the police court yesterday morning and fined $3 each for stealing coal. George Corbier was given a month for vagrancy. Joseph Mardello was fined $5 for assault and three “drunks” were fined $6 each.
