Team Picture, 1935. Wish everyone was identified!
At the beginning of the 1934 football season Coach Sullivan was faced with the difficult task of building a winning team from a squad containing only three veterans. In spite of this handicap, however, a team was placed on the gridiron that made history. Led by Captain “Bob” Lempke, Holyoke’s fast but light team went through its schedule undefeated, a tie with Classical High School of Springfield being the only game to mar a perfect record. It was the first time in some years that such a stellar performance has been credited to a Holyoke High football team. Its enviable record is the sign of the excellence of team play and good-fellowship that characterized the whole squad.
