22 January 1922
Shirley Morgan Heath, age about 3½. On the 1920 Census, little Shirley was living with her parents Harry (age 26) and Flora (age 31) at 137 Suffolk Street, Holyoke. Head of household was Shirley’s grandmother, Sarah Dougherty, age 72 who owned the house and in addition Flora’s sister Mabel Dougherty (age 38) was also living with them. Harry’s occupation was superintendent in a ruling and printing company. By 1930 Harry, Flora (Florence) and Shirley are living in Mount Vernon, New York, and in 1940 the family is still together living in Piscataway, Middlesex, New Jersey. The few scant later references I have found have Shirley visiting various relatives from her home in New York.
Sarah J. Dougherty, Shirley’s grandmother died 15 January 1930. Mrs. Sarah J. Dougherty, 82, of 137 Suffolk Street , widow of James Dougherty, died tonight at Holyoke Hospital after a short illness. She was an attendant at the Second Congregational Church. She was born in Malone, New York, coming to this city 60 years ago. She leaves four daughters, Minnie E., Mabel E., and Mrs. George M. Prentice, Jr., all of Holyoke, and Mrs. Harry M. Heath of New York City; One son Arthur J. of Holyoke, and two grandchildren.
